Advancement awards (Bobcat, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light) are earned with the guidance of the den leader.  Each of the ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements.  Den leaders use the Den & Pack Meeting Resource Guide to plan the completion of rank requirements at den meetings with some requirements being completed at home.
The Academics and Sports program gives Cub Scouts extra recognition activities to earn. In Academics subjects and Sports, Cub Scouts learn new skills, become better scholars, learn sportsmanship, and have fun.  This is a chance to try something new, do your best, and earn recognition (belt loops and pins) all at the same time. 
In addition to the Cub Scout advancement awards and belt loops, boys can earn additional awards for their uniforms.  These awards may be earned as a den or individually with the help of a parent, teacher, or other adult.  Additional awards include:
